As a sole proprietor, it*s wise to familiarize yourself with the some key deductions that may reduce your tax bill for 2004. Small-business consultants generally recommend that you hire an accountant to prepare your tax returns, payroll and financial statements. But you should also meet with your accountant well before the year-end rush to discuss such matters as tax planning, and record keeping for tax deductions.Seven common small business tax deductions:1. Employee Benefit Plans - You may deduct contributions to employee benefit plans (such as health insurance plans and retirement plans). Depending on your circumstances the maximum contribution that you may deduct per employee in a qualified retirement plan can go up to:$100,000 or more For a Defined Benefit Plan$44,000 For a 401(k) plan$41,000 For a SEP-IRA or Keogh2. Automobile Expenses- You can elect to deduct the actual expenses incurred (including gas, oil, tires, repairs, insurance, depreciation, and rent or lease payments) for the business-related portion of your car or truck expenses, or simply take the 2004 standard mileage rate of 37.5 cents per business mile. 3. Taxes - You may deduct Social Security and Medicaid taxes paid to match required withholdings on employee wages, federal unemployment taxes, sales taxes and real estate or personal property taxes paid on business assets. 4. Home Office - Depending on whether you use your home or other real estate for business purposes, you may deduct some or all of any mortgage interest paid, as well as some or all of the maintenance and repair expenses associated with the property. The cost of utilities and business supplies associated with business use are also deductible. 5. Depreciation - Depreciation may be taken on passenger cars, equipment used for entertainment or recreational purposes (i.e., photographic equipment, cell phones and computers), as long as these items are used solely for the business. 6. Professional Fees - You can deduct professional fees, such as those paid to a lawyer or accountant. 7. Meals and Entertainment - You may deduct 50 percent of meal and entertainment expenses directly associated with the conduct of your business. Remember to keep on file the records and documentation necessary to substantiate all of your deductions..

Purchasing a Pre-owned Automobile can be nerve racking for consumers. There are a number of concerns toward the integrity of the Automobile. In addition, it is difficult to compare the appearance and condition of a used car to the asking price. With some simple steps, a consumer can make a pre-owned purchase simple and know they are obtaining the vehicle for a reasonable price.Understand the Sellers Mindset ? Why is the Car for Sale?Probably the most important factor to consider is the reason a vehicle is for sale. Factors of the owners life may have lead him or her to require a new vehicle. For example, their children may become involved in sports or a new child may have been introduced to the family. Reasons like this are good to hear. They indicate that the seller probably would have kept the car and was satisfied with the reliability and comforts offered. In contrast, if the seller simply became sickened by the vehicle and upgraded, take a look at what they are driving now. Did they upgrade to a newer model of the same vehicle? If so, it is evident that they where pleased with the vehicle that was for sale. Otherwise, the vehicle may become a headache. If the seller purchased a different make and model, ask about the newer car. Their response will indicate what was important to them at the time they purchased the vehicle. These elements of importance are good indicators of things they disliked in the vehicle for sale. Therefore, if a hint of reliability is muttered, the vehicle for sale could be a, "lemon".What has been done to the Vehicle for sale?Ask for receipts in advance. To learn what was done to a vehicle, receipts are fairly important and provide good proof along with the date service occurred. Ask for receipts in advance. The seller may have to dig through documents to find receipts for service and parts. Because of this, asking when viewing a vehicle may not be a wise choice. In contrast, if the seller knows in advance, he or she will have time to find all the related receipts.Analyze the modifications that had been done. Did the owner install components that increase the fuel mileage? The vehicle may have been a financial burden. Did the owner install performance enhancing parts? The vehicle may have lacked power or did not perform satisfactorily. Did the owner install factory parts? This is a good indicator that the owner was satisfied with the vehicle and the parts proved reliable to him or her.Modifications to a vehicle will usually prove to be unsatisfactory. Keep in mind, before a vehicle is manufactured, auto makers spend thousands of dollars in engineering the vehicle. They are primarily concerned with ergonomics, performance, and safety. These engineers found the stock tire created the perfect wheel for the vehicle, the exhaust system proved safe and provided the best engine performance, and the external engine components offered economical benefits without robbing motor performance. In most cases, modified parts are throwing away all the money spent on research and engineering in a vehicle. Unless there is a purpose other than what the vehicle was designed, racing or carrying heavy loads, it is a wise choice to look for stock parts. What is the appearance of the Vehicle? One of the best ways to judge a vehicle is by the appearance. A clean and neat interior is a good sign that person was happy with a vehicle. In contrast, a poorly maintained interior may indicate that the vehicle was neglected. Did the owner ensure the carpet was preserved by using mats? Are there any burn wholes in the upholstery? Did they clean spills in the vehicle or let them become stains in the carpeting? Neglect on the inside is commonly believed to provide good insight on a poorly maintained vehicle.Walking around the outside vehicle can reveal the driving behavior of the current owner. Look at the drive wheels, are they worn significantly more than the other tires on the vehicle? This would indicate heavy acceleration, which is extremely abusive to internal engine parts and the drive train of the vehicle. Look for variations in the vehicles paint. If variations are seen, the vehicle could have been in an accident. Another indication of bodywork is to look for over-spray within the engine compartment and door jams. While a history report is fairly resourceful, accidents could have occurred that are not listed on the report. An inspection is always recommended. After a high speed accident, vehicles tend to have significant problems. What is the Vehicle Worth?Being value conscious is wise as a consumer. There are a number of resources that indicate a car value. In most cases, the seller of a pre-owned vehicle was offered a very low price as a trade-in value for their new vehicle. They are probably willing to sell the vehicle for less than, "book value," as they are wisely attempting to gain more than what was offered at the dealer. However, book value can lack many considerations and used only as a reference point. The best way to judge the value is to shop. Look at similar models for sale and evaluate the condition and desired preferences.Conduct research and read reviews of the vehicle. The vehicle may appear to be in mint condition, yet the owner neglected to bring the vehicle to a dealer for an important recall. Most would agree, this would greatly affect the overall condition as the vehicle may not be in safe working order. In addition, there are a variety of options available for each vehicle. Which options add value that can be confirmed on the vehicle for sale? Does the vehicle actually have the premium sound system and manufactures premium wheels? Put more effort into assessing the value then mileage and model, to ensure the vehicle is worth the asking price or making an offer.Purchase a pre-owned vehicle with confidenceThrough researching a desired vehicle and shopping around, a consumer can purchase a reliable vehicle and save thousands of dollars for their efforts. The savings in purchasing a pre-owned vehicle could be considered as a payment for the work done. In addition to savings, purchasing a well maintained pre-owned vehicle eliminates the fear of purchasing a poorly designed vehicle. There have been thousands of people whom purchased and tested the vehicle. The vehicle has something better than a crash test. It was tested in the real world..

If you're like me, green as a two week old willow and tryingto set and run your marketing plan, kicking the proverbial tires to your business, as it were; then hark my message. I won't be telling you how to build a list, start a website, develop content, power linking, write e-books, create software, and oh yes, make money! But then there's plenty of folk aroundthat can. What I do have in spades however, is a highly curiousdisposition coupled with a dwindling budget. That's it, and thesymptoms; it's bouncing off walls, and I can do it as well as the best of them!
There seems to be the misguided suggestion that e-commerce, buying orselling on the Internet, will very soon surpass regular means of retailsuch as department stores. Nothing could be further from the truth. Thee-commerce industry should check out the number of people that wanderthrough shopping malls on weekends. Is a company like J.C. Penny,Zellers or Wal-Mart closing their doors and meekly walking off into thesunset? No- they are expanding, rebuilding, renovating and opening newoutlets in an attempt to maintain and expand their customer base.Internet marketers must do the same thing. Even though the electronicmedium is gaining increasing importance, and there are some veryimpressive numbers being put up, there is still a major concern aboutsuch things as transferring credit information and dealing with animpersonal operator attached to some keyboard across the world. Notevery business can have a retail outlet, because some businesses areonly amenable to on-line sales, but those that do have a retail outlet, should not only be involved in directly marketing their products throughtheir web sites, but the sites should be constructed so that buyers whowant to see the product will go their outlets first. Many people want tosee the products in front of them. They want to see them, compare themto other products, perhaps see how look beside other items, especiallyif they are outfitting an office. They may even want to do a littlehaggling which is difficult to do on-line.For example, if you have an Internet site where you sell computers andalso a retail outlet, you must be prepared to deal, not only with thecustomer who is willing to buy on-line, but also the customer who wantsto go and kick the tires-so to speak. Provided that the techno-babblehas been kept to a minimum, an individual, after checking the web-site,will come to you with his initial request. Now that number that has beenrecorded as a hit on your web site is someone standing in front of you.He wouldn't be there unless the web-site had done an initial sellingjob. He is there to buy. This is where the true selling begins. As Idiscussed in previous articles- this is the opportunity to learnsomething about the customer. Some of the best sales individuals I knowhave a tremendous capacity to ask questions and then shut up and listen. They know who they are talking to; know what they what, and they havelearned this by listening after asking some questions. You now have that same opportunity While you are finding out what hewants, you must also discover his hot buttons. You must assess hisneeds, but more importantly, listen to what he wants. It has been thecase that quite often a sale will occur, not based on what needs aremet. but on the extras that come with the package. The only way that youcan find out the bells and whistles that will sell your system is bylistening. Someone can have features similar to IBM, Compaq orPanasonic, but they can sell their own system by emphasizing featuresthat fill a need that the customer never knew he had- his hot buttons. These needs are discovered by asking questions and then listening. Hereare a few cardinal rules: don't be patronizing or condescending- don'tassume that you always know what is best for the customer, or that yoursuperior product knowledge entitles you to decide what is best for him.More importantly, don't try to sell the most expensive item on themarket. This is very short-sighted. It has been shown that an unhappycustomer can affect up to two hundred potential future customers. For example, a store owner was looking for a new cash register. He cameinto our showroom looking at some very sophisticated Point-of- Salesystems. He was impressed with the flash, bells and whistles. I listenedto his needs. I could have sold him the $4,000.00 piece of equipment, because he wanted it, even though he didn't need it. His requirementswere assessed and he was told that all he needed was a three hundreddollar cash register. It was essentially a cash box that would give hima total sales printout at the end of the day. When it was explained tohim that his needs were for a simple cash recording system, heappreciated the fact that we had looked beyond his enthusiasm and soldhim an appropriate item. Eight months later, when his business hadexpanded dramatically and he needed an expensive system- where did hego? He came back to us and ended up buying $14,000.00 worth of POSequipment. An initial small commission turned into a very sizeable ordera short time later because the customer had been listened to. Peopleresent being patronized or treated as if they are not aware of their ownneeds. They appreciate your advice but that advice should never bestated as an imperative. You may get the initial sale because ofpressure tactics but the long term ill-will can result in missing out onsubstantial commissions. There is also another interesting fact: oncesomeone has come to you after checking out your web site, and they havebought from your retail outlet, their next purchase will probably befrom your web-site. This is providing that you have sold them what theyneeded, and not what you wanted them to buy..

"This lucid book of deep healing is a brilliant contribution to the spiritual literature bridging Eastern and Western thought. . . " - Lama Surya Das - Founder of Dzogchen Center and author of Awakening the Buddha WithinThis is the first -- and long-awaited -- book on Kabbalistic Healing from the spiritual teacher who first developed this work, Jason Shulman. Combining the traditional theistic approach with an innovative nondual perspective, it seeks to bring us to awakening and God through the power of being completely human. Making our former life seem as if we have been asleep, "Kabbalistic Healing: A Path to an Awakened Soul" (Inner Traditions) awakens us to our true nature. With chapters on The Healed Ego, Prayer, the meaning of the unconscious, and philosophical essays on the meaning of Reality, "Kabbalistic Healing" takes the reader on a journey of enlightenment, a journey where doing God's Will and liberation are one and the same thing.Heralded as a master who transcends the narrowness of academic Kabbalah and the superficiality of popular Kabbalah, Shulman injects new life into this ancient tradition by integrating it with Buddhist meditation, quantum physics, and 20th century psychology. Using the Kabbalah -- the Jewish mystical path to knowing reality -- as a springboard, this book guides us on how to transform our consciousness in order to heal the body, mind, and spirit. Drawing upon the author's work at A Society of Souls (a school dedicated to not only helping ourselves heal, but helping others heal as well), "Kabbalistic Healing" illuminates how we can get closer to ourselves, others, and the divine. Having the unique distinction of being trained in both the Buddhist as well as the Kabbalistic tradition, Shulman has inspired and transformed thousands over three decades. Now with this new book, he looks forward to sharing his vision with thousands more."This is a must-read for anyone who wishes to learn the essence of kabbalistic teachings in the hands of a master of spiritual and psychological development." - Rabbi David A. Cooper, author of God Is a Verb -Jason Shulman is an internationally known spiritual teacher in the kabbalistic and Buddhist traditions. A modern kabbalist, he is also a recognized teacher in the Buddhist lineage of Shaka Kendo Rich Hart, Abbot of the Clear Mountain Zen Center. He is also the founder of A Society of Souls, a school dedicated to the awakening of the human spirit through the work of Integrated Kabbalistic Healing.
Boston, MA February 8, 2005 ?- In 2004, 21 of the top 100 movies released in the U.S. were based on books. Hollywood regularly bets that a good book will make a good movie. But how does the public feel about these books and the movies they become? One third of adults have strong feelings about how books should be made into movies. Yet catering to these strong feelings simply guarantees producers won't offend loyal readers ? it doesn't necessarily translate into box office success.Film producers take note: the movie will have to stand on its own right for most viewers without betraying the book for a small but vocal group of readers. An overwhelming 80% of moviegoers say they prefer to see a movie that is true to the original book. Yet, even the majority of those people do not read the books that produced the movies they see. This implies that while filmgoers intend to read the book before seeing the movie, most people do not follow through. For example, while 73% of adults surveyed saw at least one Lord of the Rings movie, only 23% have read at least one of the books. This is even more so for books with less time in print, such as Bridget Jones's Diary, which 34% of those surveyed have seen in theaters or on video, but only 3% have bothered to read.A substantial 52% of people prefer to read the book before they see the movie. But they don't usually follow through, perhaps because the average adult reads for pleasure less than 4.1 hours per week. With so little reading time available, it's no wonder the movie is seen as the path of least resistance. Though not a majority, a substantial 27% of people say they have read a book after seeing a movie, consistent with the now common practice of re-releasing old books with new covers derived from movie posters. "This research study conducted by students at Boston University's College of Communication emphasizes the value behind the numbers," said Jennifer Cooper, the company's Director of Communications. "Hollywood routinely works on instinct or habit without taking the time to see how people really feel. This information helps developers and producers understand the role of a book in the moviemaking process."About the SurveyThe online survey of 515 people 18 years and up was conducted during the last week of October 2004. Sample was randomly drawn from participants in Survey Sampling International's online panel. The margin of error for a probability sample this size is plus or minus five percent. However, this is not a probability sample.About the College of Communication at Boston UniversityThe College of Communication at Boston University is home to the Communication Research Center where professors train undergraduate and graduate students in the science of consumer research and analysis. This project was designed by students under the supervision of Professor James McQuivey.About Llaneza FilmsLlaneza Films, an independent feature development company based in Boston, Massachusetts, has the mission of developing films that create meaning through magic. The firm is currently developing Shannon Hale's critically acclaimed adaptation of a Grimm Brother's Fairy Tale, "The Goose Girl" for the big screen..

Children have amazing and wild imaginations. The next time you hear "I'm bored" or "What can we do", give them a few household items, or let them make their own and watch them expand into endless hours of fun and entertainment. The following are just a few ideas to get the fun started and be sure to use your imagination too!--->Make an Obstacle CourseObstacle courses can be a lot of fun, spark creativity and also be great exercise for the little ones. These can be set up in and out of doors. Pillows, chairs, tires and stools are just a couple of things that can be used to be climbed, jumped and skipped over, through, around and under. Time each child as they scramble their way through and have a race. Best thing about these is that once they've done everything they can think of with the first one, it can be torn down and set up again another way. Have each child take turns in choosing the way it's set back up.--->Let's Play Dress UpDon't give away all those old shoes, shirts, pants, hats, gloves and costume jewelry! Set aside a special drawer or box for these item to play dress up. Have children act out their favorite play, television show or put on a fashion show. You'd be surprised exactly how cute she really looks in your old high school prom gown. Be sure to take snap shots or keep the video camera rolling!--->Kid's Caf?Set up old card table and let the children play restaurant. Have children make up or use play money and menus. Children that can't write yet can draw the food items on the menus. Give them some paper plates, cups, plastic silverware, a little notebook and they're open for business. Take turns being waiter, customer and busboy (or girl ).--->Go CampingThis too can be played in or out of doors and the possibilities are endless. If you have a smaller pop-up tent, it can be set up in the living room. If you're taking this activity outdoors, you can hang an old sheet over a clothesline securing with rocks at the bottom. Have children draw or cut out windows if you're using an old sheet. (Remember to keep for the next camping trip.) Set up some lawn chairs around your faux fire and tell stories, sing songs, make smores in the microwave or any other favorite camping activity. Go all the way and sleep there tonight!--->Movie NightGo to your favorite video rental store and have your child help pick out a movie for the whole family. Have children make tickets for the show, play money, popcorn, baggies of dried fruit, paper cups of juice or any other favorite snacks. Set these items up for "sale" and have each family member "purchase" their tickets and munchies. Then sit back and enjoy the show!.
